If you are considering scheduling your wedding for October, here are a few important things to keep in mind.
First, be sure that you have done the research into what typical October weather is like where you will be holding your wedding. If you are going to be outside for your celebration, be sure to develop a reasonable contingency plan for what you will do if the weather turns against you.
If holidays are your thing, consider working some of the fall holidays into the thematic design for your wedding.
At the very least, be cognizant of the fall color palette as you develop your decoration plans, and think about the kinds of fall plants that you can integrate into your floral designs—not just flowers, but also grains and other symbols of the fall harvest bounty.
While you should avoid scheduling your wedding during major holidays, like Halloween and Thanksgiving, the Columbus/Indigenous People’s Day weekend is popular because many people have the Monday off from work (but book it early: lots of people will be reserving venues for that weekend).
Also, be aware that because fall is the start of football season, some of your guests might be disappointed if your wedding is scheduled as the same day for a big or important game.
Even though October is increasing in popularity, it is considered “off-season” for weddings (most of which happen in the spring or early summer), which means you may find a number of discounts from venues, caterers, and vendors.
