A blue-green polish is a neutral choice, making this nail design work on any skin tone.
Plus, the shade can be easily matched to outfits or the colors of nature.
This design is perfect for the holiday season, from hot pink to dark green. With three different shades, it’s a little more complex than some simple nail art designs.
The idea is pretty simple. You take three shades of polish (light, medium, and dark) and paint them horizontally across your nails from left to the right. Then you go back through again over all the nail polish doing vertical lines, making sure not to ruin the first layer you did.
Before you paint your nails with the green ombre color, use a base coat of nail polish to protect your nails from discoloration. After you’ve applied the base coat and it has dried, apply two coats of a light green polish. You can add more coats for a deeper look if you want. If needed, use a tiny paintbrush dipped in acetone to thin out any rough spots on the nail.
Once the nails are dry, apply a darker green polish. The color should be darker than the first shade but complementary to it. You can use more than one darker shade for different effects.
Once the second coat is dry, apply a third coat of nail polish that is a contrasting color from both of your first two choices. For example, if you used blue-green and yellow-green, you could use purple to contrast them.
Gently remove each nail in one direction using a dull, medium-grit pumice stone or metal file. Start at the cuticle and file down to the tip of the nail, moving your way around the nail. This will help your manicure to last longer.
