The style is essentially a reversed french tip manicure, where the lower portion of polish is smaller than the upper one.
The difference is in the range of color used and the shape of the bottom portion being (you guessed it) a half-moon.
Half-moon styled manicures have been blowing up in popularity recently, as they very well should.
Not only is it astonishingly elegant and beautiful, but the nail design has been seen being sported by stylish celebrities such as Rachel McAdams, Rihanna, and Lana Del Rey, which naturally created for it some extra popularity.
The most common way to wear a half-moon style manicure is by using two contrasting colors, like a beige and a deep red, or a deep purple and lavender.
Typically, the darker of the two shades is used for the lower portion, but there’s no wrong way to style this manicure. Another beautiful way to utilize the half-moon style is by forming the lower part of the design from glitter or gemstones.
This keeps the design classy and simple but adds a sparkling and elegant touch. Conversely, some people choose to leave that lower portion of the design transparent and use no polish there.
The half-moon style can also be enhanced by adding a dazzling accent nail or two, by choosing a glitter or colored stones that correspond with the colors used for the remaining nails.
It’s also common to choose one or two nails per hand and reverse the colors – so if eight of the nails have pink on top and red on the bottom, then two nails would sport the opposite.
