Poseidon, one of the three main Greek gods, is the son of two titans and the brother of two of the most powerful gods in the Greek pantheon.
With such titles as “Earth-Shaker” and “God of the Sea” to his name, he is certainly not someone anyone wants to cross. Poseidon is also known for venting his wrath by sending earthquakes through the earth, wrecking ships in the sea and other violent means.
What does this mean for a tattoo? It means there’s a ton of inspiration for amazing tattoos. In addition to Poseidon himself, there are other great tattoos that relate, such as troubled seas, broken ships or Poseidon’s trident.
Because he’s also known as the father of horses, that’s another aspect with which you could play in your piece.
If you’re wanting something simple, like his face or his trident, you can probably go quite small with this type of tattoo. However, if you’re looking for something more elaborate, you’ll need a large open area, like your back or stomach, to do the scene justice.
The upside of a larger tattoo is that it will look just as good done all in outline as opposed to colors. Imagine the powerful Poseidon riding up out of the waves on his horse-drawn water chariot – that doesn’t even need color to take someone’s breath away from them.
Traditionally, Poseidon designs are depicted as a tanned, athletic man with long flowing hair and a beard to match.
However, your Poseidon ink ideas can look just as you want him to look. As for colors, the blues and greens of the sea work well.
